The Chip Quik?SMD Removal Kit consists of a low temperature removal alloy in wire form with excellent wetting ability that melts at 136°F (58°C). All SMDs can be removed safely and easily with a regular solder iron and minimal experience. When melted into the existing SMD connections with a solder iron, the alloy fuses into the interconnect alloy and the two combine to form a new alloy with a melting temperature below 200°F. With this lower melting temperature and an increase in thermal mass, the new alloy remains in a molten state long enough to safely remove the chip. At this low temperature all potential damage is eliminated.

CHIP QUIK ™ Instructions

1.

 Apply Chip Quik flux to all leads of SMD with syringe or flux applicator.

2.

 Melt Chip Quik low temperature alloy uniformly on all pins of SMD. Maintain alloy in molten state long enough for complete reflow.

3.

 Lift chip from board.

4.

 Thoroughly clean site with swab dipped in flux while applying heat. Clean thoroughly with alcohol pad.

SMD REMOVAL

  • Apply flux to all leads with syringe.
  • Melt CHIP QUIK ™ uniformly on all pins.
  • Maintain alloy in molten state long enough to release chip.
  • Lift chip from board with dental pick or Vacpick.

CLEAN UP

  • While molten, use cotton swab and flux to move excess to an unused section of board.
  • While applying heat, polish each pad with a swab and flux until thoroughly clean.
  • At room temperature clean residue with alcohol pad.
  • You are now ready to install the new chip.
